Affogato is the Italian word for drowned. In Italy the affogato is categorized as a dessert; outside of Italy it is considered a beverage.
This coffee-based dessert is usually made with a scoop of vanilla gelato or ice-cream "drowned" with a shot of hot espresso. From what I have read, other variations of this also includes a shot of various liqueurs and is topped with cream and caramel sauce. Like with any other food or drink, our personal preferences will always add or subtract from the original.
I enjoy this dessert beverage immensely and once in a while it's the perfect treat. Like everything else that I love to enjoy, I have to find ways to incorporate it into my new lifestyle. #Ketoeverything! I refuse to limit my foods and so my enjoyment and comfort provides me with the aim to figure out a way to have all my favorite foods and drinks while basking in the happiness of the Ketogenic and Low Carb High Fat Lifestyle.
Here is my take on this delicious treat.
Ingredients
2 - 3 scoops Keto Coffee Flavored Custard Ice-Cream
2 shots hot espresso (you may also use strongly brewed coffee or dissolve instant espresso grounds into hot water)
Sweetener is not needed, but I like it this way. You may omit this if you'd like.
1 teaspoon monk fruit sweetener or sweetener of your choice.
Method
In a 16 ounce glass tumbler, add the scoops of ice-cream.
In another cup add sweetener to the espresso and mix until the granules dissolve.
Pour sweetened espresso over the ice-cream.
Garnish with sugar-free shaved chocolate, cocoa powder or instant espresso and drizzle with sugar-free caramel sauce if you so choose.
